2028. George Washington "Washer" Carpenter
George Washington, also known as "Washer" lived in Lenox Twp. household 1305 of Susquehanna County during the 1850 United States Census.
Note: E-mail from Frances Sawyer noted that her Great Grandmother Eleanor (Nellie) Carpenter started a diary in May 1879 when they left Muscoda, WI, to come to NE. In the diary she mentions stopping to see Uncle Wash Carpenter, in Franklin County, NE, and she mentions Aunt Emeline fixing such a grand supper. Frances stated that Nellie married Tommie Northey, 1880. They had a son Clyde, 1881, and Nellie died in 1883 of TB at the age of 21. This would make Eleanor (Carpenter) Northey born in 1862.
Sept 2002 From: Jack A Schoedinger To: Beverly Valcovic Sent: Thursday, May 10, 2001 2:15 PM Subject: Re: Carpenter family Hi Beverly, When I received your e-mail I checked my Carpenter records, in addition to those of John R. Carpenter's Rehoboth Line and John L. Carpenter' Providence Line without much luck. I did happen to recall some information I found while working with a Frances Sawyer (fs81215@alltell.net). She and I found that we both had a lot of common names in our lines and felt that between us, we could find her lost "Jeremiah B. Carpenter" and my lost "Benjaman Carpenter". We were able to find her tie to a Amos and Cynthia (Franklin) Carpenter whose son Amos was the father of her Jeremiah. I believe this family is also in your lineage. Amos and Cynthia had a son listed as " Washington Carpenter", born abt. 1814 in Abington, Luzerne (now Lackawanna) County. This son was found in the 1847 list of taxables and also in the 1850 census in Lenox Township listed as "Washer" Carpenter age 36 and married to Emeline age 25, with children Henry m. age 6; Erastus m, age 4: and Elvira f, age 2. They lived next door to Amos age 67 and Cynthia age 66. On the other side of Amos was the Merritt Carpenter family and several other Carpenters family members. I also found in the Centennial History of Susquehanna County (found at http:www.dsdata. com.au/genealogy/nepa) that one Henry Millard kept a house of entertainment in Lenox Twp that was a well known stopping-place, from the fact that the stag e horses were changed there. I would be interested in seeing your Carpenter in formation since it may provide a lead to my still unfound Benjaman Carpenter. I also suggest that you contact Frances, on this side of your family. I do believe you two are in fact cousins. I also have a listing of other children and grand children of Amos and Cynthia if you would like them. Jack A. Schoedinger J.Schoedinger@juno.com

NAME: Last name possibly Millard.
According to the 1850 United States Census there were five Millard families living in adjacent homes ( household numbers 1352 thru1356) in Lenox Township. In addition the Centennial History of Susquehanna County states that one Henry Millard kept a house of entertainment in Lenox that was a well known stopping-place, from the facts that the stage horses were changed there. It is believed that these Mallards were of Emaline's family.
