J. B. CARPENTER, farmer, Sec. 20, P. O. Colby (Clark Co., WI), was born in Jefferson Co., NY, Jan. 31, 1848. When sixteen years of age, he came to Fond du Lac County. He enlisted in 1865, in the 16th Wis. Vols., Co. B; was mustered out in July of the same year, and returned to Fond du Lac Co., WI (not Mich.), and clerked in a store. In 1878, he came to town of Hull, and purchased his present farm and home. In 1868, he married Miss Aurelia Couse, of Sheboygan County. They have two children, Freddie and Florence May. He has held office as Supervisor and Treasurer of town. Is now treasurer of Colby Public Library Association.

The Daily Northwestern, Oshkosh WI, 2 Dec 1932:
"Veteran Is Buried / Wisconsin Veterans Home, Wis. (Special) -- Funeral services for Jerome B.
Carpenter, 88 year old civil war veteran, were held here in the chapel, Friday, at 1 o'clock in
the afternoon, Chaplain E. B. Earle officiating.
Interment was at a Stevens Point cemetery beside the grave of his first wife, who died several
years ago.  In May, 1932, he married Mrs. Minnie Ferguson, who survives him.  There is also a
daughter residing in Washington, D.C.  Mr. Carpenter died last Wednesday morning following
removal to the hospital 10 days previous for treatment of a heart ailment."

He married a second time at the age of 87!
