UPDATE: 2026
"Unfortunately Group 5 lost its leader, Bob Carpenter of Lompoc California. Bob passed earlier this year. He was instrumental in creating and facilitating Group 5. He was the first to test from our Zimmerman/Carpenter ancestor. He talked me into testing and then the connections spread. We have been very fortunate to have Bob's leadership. His knowledge of genetic and old fashioned genealogical research has motivated our group to trace our ancestry into Switzerland for several generations back to the early 1600's and late 1500's. We have our family, which settled in North Carolina in the 1750's our Pennsylvania cousins, our Virginia cousins, recently discovered South Carolina cousins, and later immigrants who settled in Indiana and Ohio. Our website is the catalyst for connections, new testers, and information. The Carpenter Cousins resource has been a major avenue for growth in research and finding family."

END UPDATE
Genealogy is also based on the book, Carpenters A Plenty, by Robert C. Carpenter.
Carpenter and Zimmerman descendants of this line, who have been Y-DNA tested, are part of Group 5 of the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project Group 5 is a very distinct Y-DNA genetic group from other Carpenter/Zimmerman groups in the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project.
Group 5 is also unique in using Y-DNA SNP testing via FamilyTree DNA (FTDNA.com) via the Big Y-700 testing. The Group 5 descendants are in two categories.
1) Those both genetically and genealogically connected. This includes those who are reasonably believed to be related but are not proved. Read the NOTES.
2) Those that match genetically but are NOT connected genealogically. See the marriage listed as "UNATTACHED LINEAGES" on the first page of the Descendant Report. This technique to provides those detached or unconnected descent lineages and to recognize them for their genetic connectiveness to Group 5.
