[Notes]
[Details, Sources, and Updates]
After mentioning [second] wife Sarah, Oliver's will names sons _____ [burned] Carpenter, who had already received "considerable estate" (this would have been John; elder son Oliver had not received land from his father, and in any case, he had died a couple of months before his father made his will); Christo[pher Carpenter]; and Abia[h Carpenter], Thomas Carp[enter], Joshua Carpenter, and Oliver [Carpenter] (youngest), all four under 21 (North Kingstown Town Council and Probate Records, 6:249–51). The will then names daughters Sarah Carpenter and _____ [Car]penter [burned]. The sons' birth order is thus Oliver; John; Christopher; William (b. Warwick 9 Jun 1701; no record as an adult found); Abiah; Thomas; Joshua; and Oliver (the last two with their father's second wife). The daughters' respective locations in the birth order cannot be determined from available records. It is often said that Oliver's will names a son Solomon, but as above, this is definitely false. Three children were born in South Kingstown to a Solomon Carpenter and his wife, Deborah--Samuel, b. 4 April 1733; Joseph, b. 22 June 1736; and Elizabeth, b. 10 May 1741--but this is hardly sufficient to pronounce him Oliver Carpenter's son.
The above is from Gene Zubrinsky.
The children, with notations & deletions, need re-organizing and more research. Please use caution when using this material.
